This marshmallow recipe is healthy, all natural, easy to make AND it is absolutely delicious. This recipe is honestly better than store bought and the marshmallows are perfect for roasting! As an added benefit they tend not to burn on the fire, but rather melt into a gooey goodness.
Ingredients:
- 7½ tsp of gelatin
- 1 cup of cold water
- 1 cup of maple syrup
- 1 cup of sugar
- ¼ tsp of salt
- Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- 1. Combine gelatin and ½ cup of water in a bowl. Mix with electric hand mixer (like this) until it turns white.
- 2. Combine ½ cup of water, maple syrup, sugar and salt in a saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil on medium heat until it reaches 235 degrees. Mix occasionally. (You will need a thermometer like this or this).
- 3. Once mixture reaches 235 degrees pour it into the gelatin mixture create in step 1. Using hand mixture, mix on medium / high until it turns white and fluffy.
- 4. Pour mixture into a well-oiled glass container. Sprinkle on top with powdered sugar. (Use a mesh strainer for even distribution.)
- 5. Let it sit for at least 4 hours. Remove from container and cut into desired pieces. Use powdered sugar to counter act any stickiness on the cutting board, etc.
- 6. Store in an airtight container.
